Moving your things is not such a dread: Find out Why?

Sometimes, moving or relocating your home or office is inevitable. Relocation can either be within the country or to a completely new country for a variety of reasons. When you think about it, the whole idea of packing your belongings and disposing of certain possessions sounds like a back-breaking event. However, a well-planned process will ensure that moving your things is not as dreadful as you made them out to be in the first place. Having a well-oiled system in place will make the whole relocation experience much more enjoyable.

Planning Your Move

Some of the key pointers to take into account before the big day arrives are to create a schedule, like a project manager; determine the status of utilities; buying packaging materials and planning the logistics, to name a few. Having a good schedule in place will ensure that you can systematically organize the packaging and purging of your belongings well in time. To start with, three months before the move, consider getting rid of unwanted things you may have hoarded over the years or months. You can choose to sell, donate, or simply trash them if the product is no longer functional. Getting rid of all the clutter will also help you set up the new place with much more ease.

If you live in a multi-storied apartment or building, then start with each floor. If you take up the downstairs space first, then finish clearing it completely before moving on to the next floor. Research the moving and packing companies in the area and speak to the team extensively about the relocation process, policies, estimated costs, and penalties if any. Once you have firmed up the movers and packers you want to go with, their team will also be able to provide useful recommendations based on their experience.

A couple of weeks before your relocation day, check the status of all the utilities such as bank accounts, insurance policies, electricity, gas and other items to either update the change of address, cancel, or renew as per their policy. This can involve a lot of time and has a huge impact on your move. So give yourself enough time to sort out the essentials so the transition to your new space is seamless. A week prior to the move, you can sell stuff you no longer need or will not use anymore. You can even rope in your friends and family to help you spread the word on the sale to expedite the process. For fragile items, bubble wraps them and give them enough cushioning to avoid breakage.
